About Paua Shells

Paua shells belong to the Abalone family of molluscs, Due to their beautiful shimmering blue and green, iridescent colours and light catching features the Paua Shell has received the name 'Sea Opal'

The Ancient Maori people called the Paua shell a “Gift of the God of the sea'' which has made them the most sought-after variety of Abalone.

My Experience

I'm going on holiday in June and wanted a pretty, ocean inspired necklace to wear while I am away. I went on a mission around some of my local independent shops in Stamford and found these Tide Jewellery pieces inside Love It which is a sweet little gift shop full of precious stones, gems, incense and a range of other quirky items.

The shades of blue and green within the necklaces caught my eye and made me think instantly of being close to the sea. They had so many options to choose from and for myself it was a toss up between the octopus, turtle and whale! The octopus option won so he'll be flying to Greece with me soon!
